Using Wireless Amplifiers

This is a relatively simple method in increasing wireless coverage. However the following points should be borne in mind when using them

  • Wireless is  two way process. Output power from the router is one factor affecting coverage. Receive sensitivity is another. You need both. The analogy is that there is no point in shouting louder if you are deaf to what is coming back.
  • The legal limits of power output. In Australia this is 36dBm EIRP. The sum of antenna gain and output power.
Another, and often better,  way  to increase coverage is to add more APs , either as repeaters or in a WDS configuration:
