In this video we demonstrate the test setup used to generate antenna radiation patterns. The anechoic (i.e. no reflection) chamber eliminates reflections from the outside world, and you can clearly see how this antenna performs in a clean environment.
This test setup is then used to understand the performance, and can be used to compare difference antennas in different locations.
